Access Solutions provides universal and accessible design consulting services to promote active, safe and independent living for people of all ages and abilities.

Access Solutions staff members combine a dynamic knowledge of interior design and physical and occupational therapy to create solutions to meet the unique needs of each client. By creating a safe and supportive environment, individuals can complete daily tasks without risk of injury.

The process includes identifying a client’s environmental challenges, designing practical solutions, overseeing implementation and educating the client and caregiver on the use of the features or equipment.

Services include:

Education / Prevention Educate clients, family, caregivers and professionals the concept and benefits of universal design in promoting safety and independent living.

Home Access Assessments Conduct needs assessments to determine how clients function in their home to assure that current and future needs will be met.

Modification Assessment Report Create detailed reports that outline the issues in an environment to determine the necessary access modifications.

Specialty Product Specification Recommend and/or specify specialty products that promote safety and independence. This may include assistive technology, adaptive equipment, decorative finishes, appliances, furniture an d more.

Design and Consultation Consulting services ensure proper design features by acting as a liaison and/or advocate for the client and general contractor.

Funding Source Research and Assistance Assist in locating funding sources for home modification. Associations, state and county programs, insurance and healthcare providers are possible funding sources.

Alzheimer’s / Dementia Environment Consulting Create a safe, purposeful and pleasing environment to increase accessibility and reduce stress, anxiety and agitation.

Alissa holds degrees in Interior Design and Occupational Therapy. She is also a State of Minnesota Accessibility Specialist and Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS).

Alissa’s combination of experience and education provides her with the skills and insight to create functional and pleasing environments to meet the needs of clients and promote safe and independent living for people of all ages and abilities. Alissa joined ATS in 2003 and prior to founding Access Solutions, Alissa worked for residential and commercial design firms specializing in senior housing and accessible design. She also has worked in skilled nursing facilities providing therapy to seniors. These experiences have given her first hand knowledge and access to the barriers that seniors and the aging encounter on a daily basis. She also is involved in many local and state organizations focused on seniors and aging in place, teaching and speaking about aging in place and universal design to students, professionals, and community members.
